Broken nose causes and risk factors

Content for Broken noses

Nose is the most prominent organ of our face. That's why it receives the largest share of hits and that's why nasal fracture or crack is one of the most frequent fractures.

Usually a hard blow is the cause for a broken nose. And hard blow to the nose can be received anytime:

  • When hitting into a hard object (for example car crash. Airbags can be pretty hard during crash too);
  • When a hard object is hitting (during fistfight, throwing games etc.);
  • When falling face down (Slide and fall on ice or on wet floor);
  • When crushing head to head (During Hockey, football, running in school corridors, etc.).

Risk factors

Here are provided the activities and circumstances which have an increased chance of facial injury (most probably nose injury):

  • Previously broken, cracked or surgically reshaped nose;
  • Participating in fights;
  • Playing contact sports (Hockey, football, boxing etc.);
  • Riding a bicycle, motorcycle, skating or roller-skating, skateboarding etc;
  • Riding a car without seatbelts (Though hard blow into airbags during a crash might break nose too);
  • Reckless behavior on ice, wet floor, when riding a car etc;

Practically you can hurt your nose anywhere. To reduce the risk of injury use protective items in sports, always seat your belts in a car and avoid physical fights.
