Broken nose (nasal fracture)
Cracked or broken nose bone or cartilage is called nasal fracture. It usually occurs in the nose bridge area or in the cartilage that separates nostrils.
It is not a difficult task to get your nose broken. Usually people get their nose broken during play, physical fights, sports (commonly contact sports such as boxing), falls and car crashes/accidents. Nose fracture might happen anywhere.
Is my nose broken?
It is pretty difficult to tell by yourself if your nose is broken. You might have an intensive pain and swelling in your nose even if it is not broken. Your nose might look crooked (or differently shape-shifted) only because of swelling. It is easier to tell if your nose is broken after 3 days when swelling is minimized.
Symptoms of a broken nose
- Swelling
- Pain
- Bruising around nose and eyes
- Difficult breathing
- Your nose shape might be shifted.
No harm will be made if you consult your local doctor right away.
Broken nose treatment is usually not complex and will manage without nose surgery.
